Just when we thought it couldn’t get more bizarre, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has dropped a bombshell on us.
Now, with the nation facing a shortage of hand sanitizers, numerous companies, including distilleries, have waded into the industry to manufacture them.
The problem is the distilleries make antibacterial gels which come in stylish containers and a deliciously pleasant smell to boot.
This has led to children as young as five years drinking said sanitizers, probably due to the inviting aroma.
According to the FDA, calls to the National Poison Data System regarding ingested sanitizer liquids has increased by 79% in the last month compared to last year.
Non-beverage alcohol consumption is largely an issue among homeless people in countries with alcohol sales restrictions. It’s a bit alarming that it’s hitting the states – even more so that it’s happening with young children.
As a means of resolving it, the FDA is urging distillers to add denatured alcohol to the sanitizers to make them more bitter and thus unpleasant in taste. You would think they were already disgusting but hey, beggars can’t be choosers.
Do you think altering the look and worsening the taste will stop this crazy phenomenon? We’d love to read your reply to this letter!
Trump Suggests China Had the Power to Stop COVID-19 – US WILL Seek Damages
China is in for a nightmare with the number of countries baying for its blood.
US President Donald Trump has renewed his attack on the Chinese, suggesting his administration was in the middle ‘serious investigations’ into China’s role and handling of COVID-19.
Never the one to be outshined, Trump said that the US aims to seek a higher amount of damages than Germany.
A German newspaper recently called for China to pay damages amounting to $165 billion to Germany.
In a statement, Trump said, ‘Germany is looking at things, we are looking at things. We are talking about a lot more money than Germany’s talking about.’
He then added, ‘We haven’t determined the final amount yet. It’s very substantial.’
Trump also warned that, ‘there are a lot of ways you can hold them accountable for the pandemic.’
In regard to that statement, do you think Trump is considering a more drastic response against China other than financial compensation? If so, what could be his plan?
Oil Is Sliding Again
After the substantial gains that the markets experienced on Monday, the mood in the markets today seems nothing short of gloomy and pessimistic.
The price of oil has crashed again as nearly non-existent demand has left producers struggling to find storage space.
This morning, a barrel of US crude for June delivery was priced at just $11.20 compared to yesterday’s$12.78 per barrel.
To show how the depressing situation is, the price of a barrel was $60 as recently as January.
Brent Crude, considered the global benchmark, has fallen by 4% to $19.20.
This selloff is adding to fears that US crude oil prices could plummet to below zero again if suppliers get desperate to move stocks.
The current turbulence has driven the United States Oil Fund (USO), the world’s largest oil-backed exchange, to begin ditching its entire short-term contracts for oil delivery in May.
Do you think this action by the USO will drive the June price further down and create more volatility?
CDC Confirms Six More Coronavirus Symptoms
As if the known symptoms of the coronavirus are not chilling enough, now we have to live with the fear of more symptoms. Even though it’s been almost half-a-year, health experts are still learning more about the virus.
And now, the CDC has added six more symptoms of the novel COVID-19 to the list of previously known symptoms. These symptoms could manifest in patients 2-14 days after exposure:
- New loss of smell or taste
- Repeated shaking accompanied by chills
- Muscle pain
- Sore throat
If you recall in the beginning, the center had just three symptoms: dry cough, shortness of breath, and fever.
There are also other non-official symptoms that have been noted in coronavirus patients, such as “COVID toes” which are mainly found in children. These are described as blue or discolored and swollen toes.
With this new information, there are growing fears that there is a lot that we don’t know about coronavirus. What are your thoughts on this new development?
Japanese Medical Association: Tokyo Olympics in 2021 Not Likely
For sports enthusiast eagerly waiting for the 2020 Olympics Games, praying and hoping for a vaccine is the best they can do.
According to the Japanese Medical Association, unless there is a vaccine by next summer, then the games won’t be held in 2021 either.
At a press conference, the head of the association, Yoshitake Yokokura, said, ‘I would not say that they should not be held, but it would be exceedingly difficult.’
Even if the vaccine was successfully developed, hosting the games would need a seriously rapid development of treatments.
There have been doubts whether the year-long delay is enough leeway to hold such a huge event that is bound to attract global attendance.
With the excitement associated with the Olympics and the threat posed by COVID-19, do you think holding the event with no audience could a good idea?
