Twitter Flags Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tweet About COVID-19

It seems that Twitter is taking no sides in the war of words between the United States and China regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

Recently, President Trump saw several of his tweets fact-checked by the social media giant.

Now, probably thinking that he would get away with it, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Zhao Lijian, also tweeted a controversial message that the U.S military brought the virus to China on March 12.

The tweet read, ‘When did patient zero begin in US? How many people are infected? What are the names of the hospitals? It might be US army who brought the epidemic to Wuhan. Be transparent! Make public your data! US owes us an explanation!’

Twitter immediately had the tweet flagged and posted a blue exclamation mark beneath the message advising readers to recheck the facts regarding COVID-19.

It is now clear that these two superpowers are not letting go of each other’s throats any time soon, isn’t it?

Protests Spread Across American Cities

Protests continued to sweep across several American cities on Thursday in response to the recent death of George Floyd at the hands of the police.

The crowds were demanding action against brutality by the police.

In the Twin Cities area of Minnesota – St. Paul and Minneapolis – the protests attracted massive crowds.

St. Paul experienced running battles with riot police who used tear gas to try and disperse people. The police reported that over 170 businesses were destroyed or looted.

In Minneapolis, a police precinct was set ablaze by protestors who then cheered as fire engulfed the station.

Other cities that experienced an escalation of violence include Louisville, Kentucky, the city where another victim, Breonna Taylor, lived and was killed by police in March.

In Memphis, Tennessee, protestors held up signs calling for justice for several Black Americans killed recently, including Floyd, Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery.

Phoenix and Denver were victims to these protests as well.

Do you think that these are isolated cases, or are these incidents of violence against black Americans on the rise?

Trump Accuses Minneapolis Mayor of Weakness

Never one to shy off from speaking out his mind, President Trump called out Minneapolis’s Mayor for being weak!

In a Tweet, Trump said, ‘A total lack of leadership. Either the very weak radical left mayor, Jacob Frey, gets his act together and bring the city under control, or I will send in the National Guard and get the job done right.’

He added, ‘These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!’

Mayor Frey responded to the Tweet with, ‘Weakness is refusing to take responsibility for your own actions. Weakness is pointing your finger at somebody else, during a time of crisis. Donald Trump knows nothing about the strength of Minneapolis. We are strong as hell. Is this a difficult time period? Yes. But you better be damn sure that we’re going to get through this.’

With the situation escalating by the hour, do you think the Mayor is equipped to handle the situation or is the President right?

Republicans Increase Pressure on North Carolina Officials to Confirm August Convention

Despite COVID-19 making the future more and more uncertain, the Republican National Committee is forging on with plans nonetheless.

The committee has set a June 3 deadline for officials in North Carolina to rubber-stamp the August in-person political convention.

In a Thursday evening letter to Governor Roy Cooper (D), the committee stated several safety protocols it planned to invoke in Charlotte.

This is seen as a response to Governor Cooper’s request for a safety strategy.

Strangely, the letter didn’t address a few safety aspects, including whether attendees will wear face masks or be tested for COVID-19 before entering the arena.

Do you think that the RNC should include these safety measures just to be on the safe side?

Americans Are Mistaking Stimulus Payments for Junk Mail and Scams

The stimulus payments that Americans have been getting are a very noble idea.

But that’s not to say that the process hasn’t faced any challenges.

The latest glitch plaguing the issuance of the stimulus payments has had the IRS struggling to explain itself to Americans.

To assist in delivering up to $1,200 to individuals under the $2 trillion Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act, the Department of Treasury has been mailing prepaid debit cards to the population.

Here is what went wrong.

The debit cards sent to 4 million Americans arrived in a plain envelope without the address of the federal government. Which led many Americans to think that the letters are junk mail or a scam of some kind.

Let’s hope the money won’t be lost, at least!
